Good afternoon, Night’s Watchmen!
We have had a pretty good week on the blog, the videos are going over well, and there are more on the way, so stay tuned! Personally some stuff has arisen which has distracted me from my duties, I won’t bother you with the details, but I’m feeling somewhat Tully-ish the past few days.
So, what that perosnal pity party out of the way, let’s get on to this week’s Game of Thrones news!
First up we have some casting speculation: Game of Thrones dreamboat Kit Harrington is rumoured to be attached to the new Marvel Fantastic Four reboot! Harrington is among the finalists for the role of Reed Richards in the film against , which would put the film very early in the careers of the FF. I’m not sure whether I love the idea of the scruffy, obviously well built Harrnigton playing a character that has always been very well put together and never known for his athletic build. Richards is a ‘skinny nerd’ which are not words that I would associate with Jon Snow. I love hearing news about Game of Thrones actors continuing to get big roles, so my fingers are personally crossed for him, but I feel he is less of a fit for this role than Peter Dinklage was for Boliver Trask in the new X-Men film.
That said, are we looking at Game of Thrones being the new farm system for Disney-Marvel Pictures? I hope so! I’d love to see Emilia Clarke or Sophie Turner on the silver screen opposite Robert Downey Jr or Chris Hemsworth. Talk about nerd heaven!
Speaking of Sophie Turner, she’s been involved in casting news recently as well! Turner, who plays Sansa in Thrones, will be featured in the Action Comedy Barely Lethal, a film about a teenage assassin who is seeking a “Normal” life. Turner will be playing a teenage undercover agent who is trying to capture the protagonist. Also attached to this project are notables Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson.
Second on the roundup: BEER!
Ommegang, the Brewery which came out with their Take the Black (brew) earlier this year have announced, alongside HBO that they are going to be producing Fire And Blood Red Ale with labels featuring the CG Dragons as depicted on the show, one each for Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion.
What I want to know is why can’t we get a Balerion the Black label? This news is of principal importance to USA-based readers as I haven’t yet found Thrones beer here in my neck of the Canadian woods. This is a shame, because my favourite beer in the world is a red ale, so I know I would be very interested in giving Fire and Blood an honest shot!
Third up on a particularly nerdy episode of GoT Hits: Action Figures!
Comic book publisher Dark Horse has teamed up once again with HBO in order to product and distribute some new Game of Thrones collectible figures featuring more beloved characters from the series. These beautiful figures include Eddard Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Khal Drogo, each posed dramatically, and they join already released Jon Snow and Danaerys Targaryen figures.
These figures will be presented in window-box packaging and will carry a suggested retail price of $24.99, following the first wave into the wide world of premiere-quality collectible figures.
I have to say, in this second wave, two out of the three characters are dead. Does this say something about the direction they want to take Tyrion for the fourth season?
Fourth up on our roundup, we have a Games of Thrones update!
Game of Thrones Ascent, the web-based click farm RPG that is popular on Facebook (and was our very first Games of Thrones feature) has had a pretty huge update, including Item Enhancement, Alliance versus Alliance combat, Diplomacy and a brand new house to swear loyalty to: House Tyrell. These new features are designed to add more longevity to the gameplay experience, specifically the Alliance versus Alliance combat feature should give players a brand new series of challenges to overcome!
Hopefully this news indicates that Game of Thrones Ascent is … Growing Strong! *rimshot*
Fifth, and perhaps most importantly of all this week’s hits is this: Google Play Downloads!
HBO has announced this week that they are going to be widening the online availability of Game of Thrones to Google Play users. This is pretty enormous for Android Smartphone users, who have been left behind by HBO’s policy of restricting access to HBO Go and Apple users.
Currently only the first two seasons are available on the Google Play store, but I am sure that this number will grow as the fourth season approaches quickly. HBO has been getting more tech savvy over the past few years, so this is a trend that should make everyone very happy for the future of cord-cutting!
Those are all the hits for this week, stay tuned later today or tomorrow am for the next video podcast from your friends here on the wall!
Until then, never invite your pregnant wife to meet the man who wants to kill you!
